Three-Person Henry V Occupies Castle

Creation Theatre logoIt's not the venue, necessarily, that makes Creation Theatre's latest production unique. The Oxford, England, company has performed plays in parks, churches, city plazas, and bookstores as well as amphitheaters and more traditional playhouses, so Oxford Castle seems a natural backdrop for a play such as Henry V.

What makes this production of Henry V special for the 16-year-old company is that this is its first history play and is being performed by just three actors. Associate Director Charlotte Conquest helms the play starring Rhys King, Morgan Philpott, and Christopher York at Oxford Castle Unlocked in Oxford's City Centre.

The production runs Aug. 17–Sept. 14 with a special Bank Holiday Sunday presentation for kids on August 25. That evening's show, with free admission for children, begins at 4 p.m. rather than 7:30, has a longer interval, and will include a kid-friendly synopsis and ice cream.

A post-show talk is scheduled for Aug. 22 with Professor Simon Palfrey, Shakespeare professor at Brasenose College, and Gus Gallagher, the adapter of the script.
