The Strange Bedfellows, a troupe of actors from Rockland County, New York, who present classical theater with a twist, has scheduled the William Shakespeare comedy-drama Measure for Measure in December.
Director Diana Green, the company's artistic director (and artistic director of the Children's Shakespeare Theatre), has used a modern setting to juxtapose this timeless play against our own current events.
Modern music, gorgeous costumes, and spare sets are used to convey the exciting stories of Shakespeare and others to modern audiences in an easily accessible and entertaining manner. Under Green's direction, this group has produced five full-length plays to date, including Romeo & Juliet this past summer.
The group calls the Union Arts Center in Sparkill its home, but they often travel to outdoor venues and other spaces to keep the spice of variety in their work. They are also currently developing an original piece for presentation in the spring.
Measure for Measure will play at the Union Arts Center, 2 Union Ave., Sparkill, N.Y., Friday and Saturday evenings at 7, Dec. 6, 7, 13, and 14. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, $10 for kids (18 and younger). Early Bird Discounts are available for purchases before Dec. 4.
