Sirius XM's Book Radio Channel 80 will air a one-hour adaptation of Macbeth by Lean & Hungry Theater, the Washington, D.C.–based radio drama company. The program will air twice on Book Radio: Monday, Oct. 24 at 9 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 28 at 9:30 p.m.
Also coming up on Oct. 30 at 6 p.m., Lean & Hungry will present a special live-to-air broadcast of Shakespeare's Hamlet on WAMU 88.5, the National Public Radio affiliate in D.C. The program will also be streamed live on WAMU.org.
Macbeth is the second Lean & Hungry radio drama aired on Sirius XM's Book Radio Channel. This past spring, the satellite broadcaster aired Lean & Hungry's Romeo and Juliet, which was first broadcast on WAMU 88.5 as a special Valentine's Day offering.
Macbeth, the first collaborative effort between WAMU 88.5 and Lean & Hungry Theater, aired on Halloween weekend last year. The assistant director for that production, Kevin Finkelstein, returns to helm Lean & Hungry's Hamlet as this Halloween's scary radio treat.
The resident radio drama company of St. Stephen and the Incarnation, Lean & Hungry Theater was conceived in 2006 and is the only company in the D.C. metropolitan area dedicated to adapting works of Shakespeare and other classic playwrights for radio broadcast. Performances are recorded before a live audience, complete with sound effects and original musical underscore. The recorded performances are made available as audio streams, audio CD, and as radio broadcast productions.
