Ongoing storms crossing Iowa and causing flooding in Iowa City's Lower City Park, where the Riverside Theatre hosts its summer Shakespeare festival on its Festival Stage, has forced the early closing of the company's production of Othello and a transfer of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) [Revised].
Tonight (Wednesday, July 2) will be the final performance of Othello. Curtain is scheduled for 8 pm. Performances for Thursday, July 3 and Saturday and Sunday, July 5 and 6, have been cancelled. If conditions change, an update will be posted on www.riversidetheatre.org.
Starting Friday, July 4, through Sunday, July 13, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) [Revised] will play at Riverside Theatre, 213 N. Gilbert Street, Iowa City.
For patrons who have tickets Thursday, July 3 or after, or for those who have questions, please email info@riversidetheatre.org or call 319-338-7672. Email is preferable due to high call volume at this time.
The Riverside Theatre crew and acting company will spend Thursday, July 3 evacuating Lower City Park and readying the Gilbert Street Stage.
“Of course we are heartbroken to lose our evenings under the stars, but we hope patrons will celebrate our last performance of Othello by filling the Festival Stage," Artistic Director Jody Hovland said in a press release. "This is a nimble company, and we are working hard to remount Complete Works on the Gilbert Street Stage for the remainder of the season. As always, we will take good care of our patrons. Both of our productions have received wonderful notices this summer and you can expect that energy and professional excellence to continue.”
Updates will be posted on www.riversidetheatre.org.
